Vintage Machinery entry for American Broach & Machine Co.
Description:
When the finishing teeth on a broaching cutter are sufficiently worn, the hole cut by the broach falls below spec and the broach must normally be replaced. This invention involves boring a tapered hole in the end of the broach, inside the finishing teeth, heating up the broach and then permanently inserting a chilled tapered pain into the hole. This can expand the end of the broach by 0.002 or more inches, which allows the broach to be sharpened while maintaining spec.
