Description:
Most of the patents prior to 1836 were lost in the Dec. 1836 fire. Only about 2,000 of the almost 10,000 documents were recovered. There are no drawings or specification available for this patent.

"Patent Bridge: Whereas Timothy Palmer of Newburyport, in the state of Massachusetts, has obtained Letters Patent under the great seal of the union, for a new improvement in the construction of Timber Bridges on a more extensive plan than any heretofore known either in Europe or America. The principal Bridges on the Merrimack, Connecticut, Piscataqua and Kennebeck Rivers, are built on this principle the strength and utility of which have been sufficiently proved." [Newburyport Herald January 5, 1798]
