Espacenet patent
Report data errors or omissions to steward Stan Schulz
Description:
Movable jaw adjusted either directly by a screw, or by a screw acting through an intermediate link. A wrench marked "No.4" corresponding to the "intermediate link" version (Fig. 1) is known -- it may have been produced in France.

A modified version of the direct screw adjustment appears in Samuel's Aug. 17, 1875 U.S. patent 166,814.

William Clark was a British patent agent; in other patents, P.A. Samuel is identified as Pierre Augustin Samuel, of Paris.

Note: Early British patents (pre 1916) were numbered by the year and started at patent #1 at the start of each year in January. The patent # used in DATAMP represents the year of registration and the patent # (with "leading zeros" interposed to make the number nine digits). This patent is #457 of the year 1865.
