Description:
The central "shaft" is oval, and tightens or loosens "ratchet-bars" which grip teeth in the adjustable jaws. The end jaws are held in place by deeper recessed bearing surfaces in the "ratchet bars."

Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930" posits that Beach produced this wrench at Geneva, NY. A known example is marked with Beach's name and the patent date.
