Description:

"My invention relates to certain improvements in that class of harvesting machines in which the grain table and cutter bar work independently of the main frame and it has for its objects to simplify the construction of the machine."

The Patterson Brothers, makers of agricultural equipment, were, by 1885, struggling to compete against their larger rivals. The lacked a rail connection and apparently could not afford to pay for one, nor could they convince a railway to build one. At the beginning of 1887 the business moved to Woodstock, which had rail access and a $35,000 that was awarded to Patterson Brothers for relocating. The business was then acquired by Massey-Harris in December 1891. Meanwhile, the workers' village of Patterson, two miles west of Richmond Hill, faded out of existence.
