1884 catalog of J. W. Manneer (see p. 14)
Description:
Holt cites a combination of a "reamer point," sharp edged spiral grooves and slightly enlarged diameter threaded portion of the shaft where it enters the head as the basis for this patent.

The 1884 catalog of post-drill maker J. W. Manneer features "Holt's Patent Gimlet Bits" on page 14. The illustration shows the maker's name of G. L. Holt, as well as the patent date.
