Vintage Machinery entry for Usher Automatic Stop Co.
Description:
This safety-stop for a belt-drive machine with a rod-actuated mechanism to stop the machine. Usher's invention uses "an electrically operated door lock of standard construction which may be bought in hardware stores" combined with a frame with lever that mounts to the machine—a knitting machine in the preferred embodiment—and uses the electrical actuation of the switch to actuate the rod that stops the machine. The motor switch can be a manual switch but typically would be a limit switch mounted on the machine.

Usher would obtain a Canadian version of this patent, CA-140,867.
