Description:
This is the third butt gage patent issued to William Gelbaugh.

His previous two patents (750,842, 940,001) were very similar to this one, but this one combines the best features of them into one simple and useful tool. All three designs were produced, but this was the only one produced in any significant quantity.

The company that produced these tools, Gilliam Manufacturing Co. of Canton, Ohio, went on to become the well-known producer of bearings, Timkin.
