| Description: | | The self-adjusting locking pliers is an improvement on patent no. 2,751,801 (June 26, 1956). The References also cite patent no. 2,531,285 and French and Canadian patents. The patent is incorporated in the self-adjusting mechanism of the Leverage Tools LEVERWRENCH and Stanley AUTO-GRIP PLIERS produced by Leverage Tool for Stanley.
Leverage Tools produced a range of tools incorporating the self-adjusting locking handles, including c-clamps, welding clamps, and battery carriers. Late production of these tools is marked with patent no. 3,600,986, for the lock-release feature in the lever handle.
Stanley bought out Leverage Tools in 1982, and moved the assets to Shaftesbury, VT. | |
