Description: |
| An externally threaded tube on the shank of the monkey wrench adjusts a moveable jaw with internal threads cut in the base.
Produced by E.F. Dixie of Worcester, Mass. in the early 1850s.
Versions of the wrench using a screw-on ferrule or threaded shank and nut to support the ferrule were introduced as evidence and cited as "prior art" in the course of the Collins Company vs. Loring Coes et al. law suit & Loring Coes vs. The Collins Company counter suit which led to the U.S. Supreme Court decision which found the 1865 "Jordan & Smith" patent void for want of novelty.
Hewet's 1864 Union Wrench (patent no. 41,995) is structurally similar. |
