Description: |
Pliers type tool with gripping lugs for three sizes of steel bands corresponding to the external circumference of three standard canning jar sizes. Known examples of the tool corresponding to this patent have no markings; a 1918 ad that includes this patent date calls it the "Little Giant Jar Holder."
A 1905 IRON AGE "new product announcement" for the WOLVERINE FRUIT JAR HOLDER AND OPENER shows a construction based on patents dated Feb. 11, 1902 (pat. no. 693,353) and Oct 27, 1903 (pat. no. 742,238), and the corresponding tool is marked accordingly.
