Description: |
It resembles Barnes' January 9, 1877 patent (no. 186,099) in many respects. The main body is to be cast in one piece; the reversible jaw has a flat wrench surface on one end and pipe teeth on the other.
Known examples are unmarked or have the January 9, 1877 patent marking (see that patent for more info.) Late 19th Century hardware catalog listings and a 1905 ad for the BARNES tongs shows both patent dates. |
