Description:

This is a simple but useful combination tool for carpenters. It features two interlocking rulers, which can be rearranged to function as a square, bevel gage, marking gage, compass, dividers, protractor, and several other tools. This design is very similar to the much earlier Backstrom patent (1,009,214 - 11/21/1911), but no mention of this earlier patent is made in the claims.

These tools were apparently a hit with carpenters, as they were produced in large numbers as the "12-in-1 Tool". Early models were made of bronze and featured a scribing point on both arms, while later ones were nickel plated and replaced the scribing point with another diamond-shaped hold to hold a pencil or knife.
