Description:
Machine is shown with sawhorse-style legs, and is probably intended for use by a house carpenter. The inventor obtained a reissue of the patent and subsequently sued William Hawkins and others who were licensees of Stephen W. Hall's miter machine, patent 21,194, which constituted an important improvement on the La Baw patent. See our description of patent RE3,445 for much more detail on this lawsuit.

This La Baw miter-machine patent was extended in 1869; an extension will not be granted if it is not being used, so this invention must have been manufactured but we currently do not know by whom. The inventor was an architect and not a manufacturer himself.
