"Vintage Machinery" entry for Kershaw Brothers
Description:
"we construct our horizontal saw frames with a vertical driving shaft journaled on the cross slide, the crank being upon the vertical shaft and having a horizontal connecting rod to the saw frame, the crank of the vertical shaft is preferably inside the working frame but may be at the end of same or at one side. The crank shaft has a sliding key its whole length passing through the pulley and the shaft is elongated so that at each end it automatically or otherwise lowers to adapt itself to the timber as it is sawn."
