Joel Havens "Vintage Machinery" entry for Roper-Whitney Co.
|
Description: |
This was used for the Whitney Jr. hand punch for decades, with an incorrect patent date 5-24-13 forged on the lower handle (I have one). Apparently the date was misread at some point, and 6-24-13 became 5-24-13.
Abstract:
This invention relates to hand metal punches of that type wherein a stationary and a movable handle are employed, the stationary handle having a slotted head provided with a transversely movable punch, the punch being operated by a member pivoted on the slotted head and engaging the punch at its outer end, said member being operated by the movable or operating handle of the tool. Heretofore difficulty has been experienced in providing a satisfactory means of connection between the operating handle and they tool engaging lever.
Claim:
In a punch, the combination with a slotted head having a punching tool slidable therein, a punch engaging member pivotally mounted thereon and connected with said punching tool, an operating handle for actuating said punch engaging member, and moans connecting said operating handle to said slotted head so as to permit swinging movement of the operating handle, of eccentrically connected operating members attached to the operating handle and the punch engaging member. |
