Description:
This is the well known "Kant Twist" clamp, popular with machinists and welders. It is available in several versions but the version shown here is the original and most common. The advantages of this design are that the handle does not interfere with the work being clamped, it is capable of exerting great force, the floating jaws stay parallel, and the jaws incorporate a V block for holding round stock.

The inventor sold the patent in the 1950s to the Saxton Manufacturing Co. of El Monte, California, and then it was acquired in 1972 by the Clamp Manufacturing Co. Examples from the Saxton era are labeled with some variant of "Saxton / Kant-Twist / El Monte Cal." An ad in the October 1955 "Popular Mechanics" shows this clamp. The ad is from Zurco Distributing Co. of East Los Angeles.
