Description:
Beecher was president of the Diamond Safety Matches Co. This Beecher match-making machine was the first fully automatic machine of the kind, and was wildly successful. An article in the August 1946 "Popular Science" has a tour of a match factory that produced over 1.1 million matches per hour; the article shows a match-making machine that "hasn't changed much in appearance or principles since Ebenezer Beecher invented it in 1888." This 1888 patent was just one of several patents that Beecher was granted for his match-making machinery.
