Jeff Joslin Vintage Machinery entry for Diehl Mfg Co.
|
Description: |
The inventor was an employee of sewing-machine maker Singer Mfg. Co., and this patent says that the motor "is specially adapted for running sewing and other small machines". At about the time this patent was issued Diehl left Singer and started a business, what eventually became Diehl Mfg. Co., to manufacture electric motors and related devices. They would manufacture for Singer among other companies, and were at some point acquired by Singer. This motor is a variable-speed DC motor, and one of the design goals was to avoid affecting other motors running on the same circuit. It is a bit difficult to understand exactly what this entailed as the wording of the specification does not make sense using a modern understanding of electrical terminology and engineering. |
