Description: |
Bemis' specifications recognize the A.B. Davis combination pipe and nut wrench (no. 94,085), but claim this design as an improvement on Amos Call's Aug. 28, 1866 patent (no. 57,621). This patent was the basis for B&C pipe and nut wrenches for the remainder of the tool's production.
The nail-claw feature shown in the patent does not appear on known examples of the wrench.
Some examples of the B&C combination nut and pipe wrench also cite the McLaren patent (nos. 59,852 and RE8,064) which also is connected to combination pipe & nut wrenches produced by Tower & Lyon & Union Hardware.
W.S. Bemis patents in 1893 (498,204 and 501,860) addressed manufacturing processes and modifications to the pipe gripping aspects of the wrench. |
