Description: |
| The patent describes the manufacturing steps for producing a non-reversible ratchet head with an internal spring-loaded ball keeper for socket heads, extension bars, etc. The ratcheting mechanism is enclosed within the handle.
The ratchet handle was used for sets produced by the Syracuse Wrench Co., and appears in comparable sets sold under other names (e.g. BECKLEY-RALSTON). The square extensions and sockets with square studs in these sets are similar to those used in the "SILVER METAL" sets based on Charles Miller's patents (Nos. 845,716 and 845,717).
The ratchets shown in conjunction with SYRACUSE WRENCH CO. in Ken Cope's "American Wrench Makers 1830-1930" are of later vintage, and do not reflect the Albrecht patent. |
