Stan Schulz Collins Company vs. Loring Coes et. al. (1889 Supreme Court decision)
|
Description: |
The main feature of the patent is an internal nut holding the load-bearing ferule of a wood-handle monkey wrench (see detail in 2nd image).
The construction was used in mid-1870s & early 1880s L. Coes & Co. screw wrenches; the patent was cited in corresponding advertisements, along with Taft's March 23, 1869 patent no. 88,230. Wrenches using this construction were part of the complaint in the Collins Company vs. Loring Coes et al. lawsuit, although this patent was not specifically noted in that suit.
Aspects of this patent were incorporated into a broader 1870 English patent (GB-187000904) which also has features from other Taft wrench patents. |
