Description:
The adjustment is created by wedge-shaped components sliding past each other. The compression spring in the butt of the handle keeps the wedges in contact with each other.

This is the earliest of several patents used by Leverage Tool of Glenvil, Nebraska. The patent number appears on early versions the the LEVERWRENCH, along with 3,116,656. In the second and successive patents, the wedges are in the handle. See patent nos. 3,116,656, RE26,680, and 3,600,986 for the evolution.

Stanley bought Leverage Tool in 1982.

The specifications cite previous patents 952,079, 2,452,625, 2,487,281, 2,499,201, 2,531,285, 2,533,817, & 2,661,648 as references.
