Description:
Jaw segments similar to chain links clamp together with a spring-tensioned latch opposite the handle. The handle has a gear and rack attachment to the links on one side. This allows the grip to tighten and relax, which provides for "ratchet" action.

The specifications make clear the tool is intended for well drilling and casing operations.

This tongs differs substantially from Bessolo's other tongs patents (nos. 1,447,920 and 1,548,344).
