Description: |
Most of the patents prior to 1836 were lost in the Dec. 1836 fire. Only about 2,000 of the almost 10,000 documents were recovered. Little is known about this patent. There are no patent drawings available. This patent is in the database for reference only.
For a Revolving Washing Machine; John D. Gwinn, Washington county, Tennessee, October 3.
A square box, to contain the clothes, is to revolve on gudgeons, one of them being furnished with a crank, by which to turn it; the other gudgeon is hollow, and extends into an open box, or trough, into which soap-suds may be poured, in order to supply the revolving box, without the necessity of opening the door at which the clothes are introduced; we presume that the dependence for the validity of this patent, is placed upon the hollow gudgeon, and open trough, although this is not very clearly expressed; the advantage of the falling of the clothes in the square box, a thing by no means new, is also insisted on.
