Description:
A "T" headed link between the movable jaw and slotted shank engages rack teeth on the back side of the shank to hold the adjustment. The movable jaw is keyed to the main shank by a dovetailed slide. The jaws are shaped to grip pipe.

The specifications describe this as an improvement to a design for which patent application was made on April 11, 1890. No corresponding patent is known.
