Description:
The thumb lever releases a spring-tensioned pawl lever that engages rack teeth on the shank of the movable jaw. The movable jaw is moved to close by a compression spring. The operating mechanism is enclosed.

Corresponding British patent 9,792 (GB-189009792) of 1890 is dated June 24, 1890.

"An extremely rare example of KING'S PATENT NUT WRENCH as produced by King & Hough, Lees Summit, Missouri under the terms of patent number 430,656, issued on June 24, 1890. A thumb lever releases the lower jaw mechanism to precisely adjust in place.
