Description:
A spring-loaded pawl on the movable jaw engages rack teeth inset on a piece sliding in the side of the main shank. A tapering face on the ferule of the handle can be adjusted to slide the rack toothed piece to take up any slack in the adjustment.

A Maine collector constructed one based on the patent drawings.
