Description:
Prior to the time this patent was granted, the Plumb, Burdict & Barnard were manufacturing their nut and bolt making machines for sale and also for making nuts and bolts. But they realized that they made more money making the nuts and bolts than by making the machines and by 1883 they had virtually cornered the market in square-head machine bolts.

An 1869 advertisement for the Providence Steam Engine Co. features "Burdict's Patent Bolt and Nut Forging Machine". We have not been able to find a Burdict patent from 1869 or earlier, nor can we confirm that Providence Steam Engine Co. was still licensing Burdict's patent(s) in 1883 when this patent was granted.
