Description:
The patent describes a "hook jaw" with teeth facing toward the wrench bar, combined with a screw-adjusting frame bearing a smooth faced pivoting cam or roller to force the pipe surface into to the gripping teeth.

The patent notes and specifically disclaims features in U.S. patent nos. 212,369, 203,774, 171,982, 29,826, and English patents 2,755 (1853) and 1,954 (1862).

The manufactured wrench has the hook jaw adjustable, and the roller fixed to the handle.
