Description:
This invention is a method of efficiently and continuously refine crude oil. It would greatly increase the availability of high-octane aviation fuel, which became important during the war (although the patent was granted after World War 2 ended, the patent application came before America entered the war). According to the USPTO, "This invention is considered one of the most important chemical engineering achievements of the 20th century. In addition to producing gasoline, their invention is used to manufacture heating oil, propane, butane, and chemicals that are instrumental in products such as plastics and synthetic rubbers."
