Description:
The wrench has a long sliding jaw, and a unique adjusting nut "which may be rapidly twirled by striking the respective arms successively.." Some wrenches are found with a single adjustable socket as shown in this patent and Canadian patent CA-13,865; most correspond to Thompson's Oct. 16, 1883 patent (no. 286,653).

John Hill's May 2, 1899 patent (no. 624,211) is a similar design.
