An otherwise unmarked "parrot jaw" pliers has the square steps feature in the jaws, and is marked with the patent number. Another known example with a four-position "slip jaw joint" is marked "SuPERFORM Oakland Calif. U.S.A." Magazine ads for SuPERFORM date to the late 1940s.

Claim #4 was "disclaimed" in 1945.
