"Adds to the lower part of a horizontal cylinder a valve loaded with a weight, that remains colosed until an accumulation of water takes place in the cylinder, which, together with the pressure of the steam, exerts a power greater than the weight, opens the valves and allows the water to run from the cylinder. In cylinders having two pistons the valve is placed between them at the point of their nearest approach..."
