Description:
The movable jaw slides on the bar which also forms the handle; the faces of the jaw surfaces are rough to maintain a grip on the axle nut when the jaws are tightened. The movable jaw has an extended "chamber" to protect the threads of the adjusting screw.

A known malleable iron example marked "B.F. JOSLYN'S PATENT MAY 16 1876" is 12.5 inches long, and was found on a farm sale near Worcester, Mass.
