Vintage Machinery entry for Gibbs General Machine Co.
Description:
This friction gearing is a variation on that seen in patent 1,429,866, which was subsequently withdrawn. Both patents were based on the same application. This patent's date has been seen on a sensitive drill press built by Gibbs General Machine Co. and distributed by Jos. T. Ryerson & Co. The patent number is listed in a promotional brochure for the US version of the Schaffner lathe that was made in Switzerland. The brochure also mentions the "Gibbs V-Disc Transmission".
