Vintage Machinery entry for State Mfg. & Engineering Co.
Description:
The inventor was secretary of the State Pattern & Machine Co., which in 1922 reorganized as the State Mfg. & Engineering Co., which became well known for their disk sanders and oscillating spindle sanders. We have seen ads for the "State Universal Saw", a tilting-table saw that had a cast pedestal base and was meant to be a portable job-site saw. The main innovations in this pattern are the trunnions that support the tilting table, and the mechanism that raises and lowers the motor and arbor together. The arbor is belt driven from the motor which sits low in the pedestal.
