Description:
This patent provides improvements to N. R. Merchant's doweling machine for making barrel-heads, patent 32,449. The two inventors were both from the small town of Guilford, NY. Merchant, who died in 1863, had been the proprietor of the Guilford Iron Works. In 1872 that firm was making Jesse S. Teed's patent water wheel (patent 121,555); it is not known if they used this doweling-machine patent.
