Description:
Examples of this level have been seen, labeled as "O.T.D." with the patent date. The September 1919 issue of "American Builder" has an ad for "On The Dot Level Devices". "O-T-D is a small instrument about three inches length that can be mortised into any board (picked up on the job) making a perfect level or plumb Bob...." The ad is from Chas. W. Neimes Sales Company, Chicago. Note that the assignees Ohde, Thullen and Dreyer give us the O.T.D. initials, as does On The Dot. We believe that the assignees manufactured the levels and sold them through the Neimes Sales Co.; The 1921 Patent Gazette for the follow-on patent (see patent 1,393,328) says, "assignor to Fred Ohde, Christopher F. Thullen and August A. F. Dreyer, Chicago, Ill., Co-partners doing business as On-The-Dot Level Device."
