Description:
Extensible arms which can be positioned on a vertical rod hold the "fork member" and "screw member." The patent claims include the construction of the component parts. The construction is intended to make the tool adaptable to a range of engines.

The MERTZ Valve Spring Release was on the market in 1915, "in 5 sizes." In the early 1920s it was available from the Rosier-Howard Corporation, Hutchinson, KS.
