Description:
Local case hardening process by dipping the portion to be hardened in melted cyanid of potassium, but not restricted to that substance, and then removing the item once it reaches the temperature of the melted salt bath. This method is claimed to avoid the problem of warping when carpenter squares are heat treated in their entirety.

Nicholls applied this patent to their 100-R square calling it the HARDENED CORNERS PROCESS.
